There are three species of sea turtles that nest on Alabama's Gulf Coast: green, Kemp's ridley and loggerhead. They are the last of the acient reptiles, first appearing around 200 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth. All sea turtles are protected by the Endangered Species Act and it is against the law to disturb nesting sea turtles, hatchlings, or their nests.
From the beginning of May through October, we have sea turtles nesting and hatching along the beach in front of The Lodge. Please read the letter below and join us in our efforts to protect and preserve these magnificent creatures.
